Where there is a will there has got be a way. In response to rising gas prices, some employers in Loudoun are catching onto a state-wide program launched in 2001, called Telework!VA. The program provides incentives for Virginia businesses to establish or expand telework programs for employees. Several months ago, Telework!VA assisted an innovative limo hire company, Reston Limousine, with the launch of its telework program.
Telework means working at any alternative location other than at your central worksite. A telework program gives selected employees and managers the option of working off-site on a full-time, part-time, or even temporary basis, rather than having to commute to the office every day. Staff may choose to work from home offices, telework centres, or satellite offices. How formal or informal your telework arrangement is depends on your company and employee needs. Some teleworking arrangements require nothing more than a phone line, while others involve a full home office setup. How simple a telework arrangement is depends upon a company’s business needs.
The program's goal is to give more people the opportunity to telework. Launched by the Department of Rail and Public Transportation to help reduce the number of commuters on Virginia's roadways, Telework!VA helps companies attract and retain happy and productive employees, reduce employee absenteeism, and lower operational and recruitment expenses through teleworking.
The program also offers training and managing methods, helpful resources and tips on how to sell the program to upper management and staff. Apparently, upper management has the toughest time with the idea of allowing employees to telework. Countering that, quantitative measures actually found employees are one-third more productive at home than in the office. And, through the development of a "team concept," a company can also hold employees accountable to each other as well as to upper management.
In these tough economic conditions, limo hire companies know that they need be resourceful and innovative to stay competitive and indeed to survive. Cutting costs and increasing productivity are two obvious areas a business can investigate. However, cutting corners on customer care and service is not an option for limo hire companies that are dedicated to the concept of being the best while still being affordable.
